Materials

At emsé studios, responsible design is our guiding principle. We choose our materials with care, striving to ensure that each garment is produced in the most responsible way. Transparency is key for us, and we acknowledge that achieving responsible design isn't always straightforward. We are continuously aiming to improve, and we are always on the search for the best responsible materials. Below, you'll find an overview of the materials used in our designs.

Garments made with full certifications from GOTS, GRS, or TENCEL™ and LENZING ECOVERO™ Viscose. These garments are responsibly and transparently produced with 100% traceability from raw material to fin.

  • GOTS-certified organic fibers: Cotton, Linen, Wool, and Hemp.
  • GRS-certified synthetic fibers: Polyester and Nylon.
  • Lenzing fibers:
  • TENCEL™ Lyocell
  • TENCEL™ Modal fibers
  • LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose with a product license.

Responsible garments are produced from certified yarns or fabrics. They are not fully certified but they are guaranteed to be produced with responsible raw materials and with a valid traceable certificate. The only difference from fully certified garments is to be found in the production chain where a factory has not yet been certified.

Animals are living creatures, and they deserve love and care just as us. For this reason, all our garments are without mulesing wool or angora rabbit hair.

Recycled polyester and nylon are derived from waste, including plastic bottles and broken fishing nets, either from pre or post-consumer sources. The waste material is melted and spun into nylon or polyester threads which are used for weaving or knitting. The production process of recycled nylon and polyester uses less oil and generates lower CO2 emissions compared to conventional fibers. Additionally, this production method helps reduce plastic waste in incinerators and landfills.

LENZING™ECOVERO™ fibers is a sustainable viscose fiber derived from sustainable wood. LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers are biodegradable and are able to fully revert to nature under industrial, home, soil, and marine conditions. In comparison to generic viscose, the production of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers has 50% lower water impact and up to 50% lower CO2 emissions.

The fabric of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibers is lightweight, breathable, and has great resistance to wrinkling. The fabric has a soft feeling to the touch, and a luxurious appearance.

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers from Lenzing are extracted from sustainably grown wood. The extraction process involves using a unique closed-loop system that recovers and reuses solvents, minimizing environmental impact.

Fabrics made of TENCEL™ lyocell fibers are gentle to the touch, breathable, and have a luxurious shine.

TENCEL™ Modal fibers are extracted from naturally grown beech wood. The extraction involves an environmentally responsible pulp-to-fiber process. This process is self-sufficient in energy and recovers co-products from component parts of wood. The fibers are biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil, and marine conditions. In other words, the fibers can fully revert back to nature.

TENCEL™ Modal fibers are flexible and renowned for their softness which is twice as soft as cotton. Compared to cotton, the softness in these fibers last longer and are able to withstand repeated wash and dry cycles.
